Samples from Site 5MT7712 in southwest Colorado were examined for pollen
and macrofloral remains. This site is a large Pueblo II/III Anasazi habitation
site, although only a small portion of the site was excavated and analyzed.
Excavated features include a small two-room room block and associated internal
features, a subterranean pit room and associated internal features, and
hearth/pit/trash features associated with extramural activity surrounding the
two-room room block. The excavated portion of the site is believed to have
functioned as a specialized work area used for food processing activities.
Pollen and macrofloral analyses are used to provide information concerning
possible plant resources that were processed in this area of the site.
