资源简介:
We present the results of 14C age analysis of samples collected during multiple projects that are part of an on-going, joint initiative of the U.S. Geological Survey Volcano Disaster Assistance Program and the El Salvador Ministerio de Ambiente y Recursos Naturales. These projects are part of a wider effort to better understand El Salvador’s many volcanoes and provide baseline data which can be applied to understanding the character of the country’s volcanism and assessing its volcanic hazards. Many of El Salvador’s late Pleistocene and Holocene eruptions and non-eruptive volcanic events lack critical information on when they occurred. Samples were taken from both terrestrial outcrops and cores of varying lengths. The data presented here begin to fill this knowledge gap by providing age constraint for many previously undated eruptions, debris avalanches, or debris flows. For each sample, we provide stratigraphic constraint and outcrop locations, but detailed tephrostratigraphy and interpretations for each project will be presented in subsequent publications using these 14C age data.
