资源简介:
This dataset provides the numerical codes and simulation outputs accompanying the submitted paper entitled “Earthquake Cycles and Seismic Source Processes on Carbonate Faults: Insights from Microphysically-based Modeling.” In this study, I extend an existing earthquake rupture nucleation model to simulate the full seismic cycle, with a focus on internal deformation mechanisms. Using a spring-slider framework implemented in the finite element package COMSOL (Version 3.5a), the model simulates natural earthquake behavior on faults in carbonate rock masses. In this study, I explore 1) Frictional Behavior with Velocity and Depth; 2) Cyclic Earthquake Behavior at Depth. Overall, our simulations underscore the importance of internal deformation processes in governing fault friction and provide supporting evidence for impulsive, self-healing rupture dynamics. This is a theoretical study; no experimental data were generated. The dataset includes: Code Files The modeling was conducted using COMSOL Multiphysics (v3.5a). Five simulation files in .mph format are provided: 1) Spring-slider of Natural Fault_steady state_nucleation+hv – Simulates steady-state behavior from nucleation to seismic slip. 2) Spring-slider of Natural Fault_one_event (Yoffe function) – Simulates a passive earthquake event initiated via a Yoffe function. 3) Spring-slider of Natural Fault_one_event (Stress Perturbation) – Simulates a passive earthquake event triggered by a stress perturbation. 4) Spring-slider of Natural Fault (EQ cycles)_ref – Simulates full earthquake cycles without slip localization. 5) Spring-slider of Natural Fault (EQ cycles)_localization – Simulates earthquake cycles including slip zone localization. Result Files Numerical output is organized into four compressed .rar archives: 1) Results-steady state.rar – Output for steady-state simulations. 2) Results-one event from Nature Yoffe.rar – Output from the Yoffe-triggered passive earthquake simulation. 3) Results-one event from Nature Perturbation.rar – Output from the stress-perturbation-triggered earthquake simulation. 4) Results-EQ cycles.rar – Contains results from all earthquake cycle simulations, with and without slip localization. Each archive includes time-series data for the following key variables: 1) Friction coefficient (Tau vs time.txt) 2) Temperature (T vs time.txt) 3) Porosity (Phi_sb vs time.txt) 4) Logarithmic grain size (logd vs time.txt) 5) Logarithmic slip velocity (logV vs time.txt) These datasets are provided to support reproducibility and further exploration by the community.
