Methanosarcina mazei is a methanogenic archaea able to produce methane from several substrates, including acetate. This specie is found in several environments, and we detected an abundance of this specie in the reservoir of the fourth largest hydroelectric in the world. The goal of this study is to characterize the genomic features of a strain cultivated from the Tucuruí hydroelectric power station reservoir.
