Debaryomyces hansenii -- the osmo- and halotolerant non-conventional yeast -- has an application in the food industry, biotechnology, as well as in academic research as a model for investigation of halo- and osmo- tolerance. DBH9 strain is a histidine auxotroph, obtained by ultraviolet mutagenesis (Minhas et al., 2009).
