ALKBH5 and FTO are 2-oxoglutarate (2-OG) and Fe(II)-dependent dioxygenases, the members of ALKBH family proteins. They are N6-methyladenosine demethylases removing methyl groups from RNA, playing important role in RNA metabolism and further, in various cellular processes. We have previously shown that FTO protein forms active in vivo homodimers, but also hetero complexes with calmodulin.
