DescriptionThis Zenodo repository contains the data files, manual soundscape annotations, raw annotated audio subsample, and R scripts used in the manuscript Ecological specificity of acoustic indices varies with soundscape composition and habitat context. The repository supports analyses of acoustic index performance across diel periods, seasons, and habitat types in temperate ecosystems of the Netherlands, as well as validation of index behaviour using manually annotated soundscape composition. The repository includes four ZIP archives: 1. Statistical analysis of acoustic indicesContains the R script Analysis_acoustic_indices_outputs.R and the folder Indices_outputs_rerun with input .csv files used in the statistical analysis. File names include sensor identity and the time period over which acoustic indices were calculated; the subfolder sept contains the files for September. These files were used to evaluate the effects of diel period, season, and habitat type on acoustic index values using generalised linear mixed-effects models (GLMMs). 2. Indicator validation using soundscape annotationContains the R script Soundscape_analysis.R and the input file Subsample_files_all_data.csv. These files were used to assess how acoustic indices respond to annotated soundscape categories, including dominant sound sources, biotic sound classes, and avian sound categories. 3. Raw manual annotation filesContains the raw audio files (.mp3) used for manual soundscape annotation. File names indicate the recording date and time in UTC. 4. Appendix Figure A2: Dominant sound sources across habitat typesContains the R script Dominant_sound_category_plot.R and the input file files_with_acoustic_indices_final.csv, used to generate Appendix Figure A2 showing dominant sound sources across habitat types based on manual annotation of a stratified subsample of 560 one-minute recordings. This repository is intended to support transparency, reproducibility, and reuse of the analyses presented in the manuscript.
