The goal of this project is to identify the diversity, structure and dynamics of microbial community in the wastewater treatment plants, relationship between microbial community structures and environmental factors (operational parameters). Activated sludge, a core process in wasterwater treatment plants （WWTPs）, contains highly complex microbial communities. Therefore, understanding the microbial community compositions is important to improve the performance of WWTPs.
