Pan Trap Dataset

We as a group of four students performed a Pan Trap experiment to observe the insects in the grasslands and woodlot plants of the York University campus. For the woodlot experiment : 1. We used a total of 9 coloured bowls of white, yelow and blue colors. There were 3 bowls of each color and placed in a horizontal direction of each colour in one line, forming 3 lines in total. 2. The bowls were placed 1 metre apart from each other and filled with soapy water by 1/4th of its volume. 3. After an hour, the number of insects were observed and counted in each bowl and the number of Recognizable Taxonomic Units (rtus) of each insect was noted. For Grassland Experiment : 1.The same procedure was adapted for Grassland experiment except here we used a total of 6 bowls of blue, white and yellow and again they were placed in 3 different lines in a horizontal direction. 2. The same follow up and procedure was performed for the insects as in the Woodlot experiment.
