资源简介:
The Fort A.P. Hill Cultural Resource Manager, under the Environmental Division of the Directorate of Public Works within Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, has completed Phase I reconnaissance-level archaeological survey in association with proposed development of (1) an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) airstrip and (2) a fire training center, at Fort A.P. Hill, Caroline County, Virginia. The proposed UAV airstrip will include the construction of a 1-hectare (2.5-acre) gravel landing strip and an associated steel building. As the location of the proposed structure has not yet been determined, the area of potential effect for this project was defined as an approximately 22.4-hectare (55.5-acre) area that includes all potential building locations. The proposed fire training center will include the construction of a steel fire training tower and associated facilities, with an area of potential effect of approximately 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres). The combined Survey Area includes both projects and totals 23.9 hectares (59.2 acres) located in areas of previous disturbance and a portion of the live-fire impact area at Fort A.P. Hill. The objective of the archaeological survey was to identify any historic properties that may be located within the Survey Area and evaluate the potential eligibility of any such resources for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. As a result of the investigations, one previously recorded archaeological site (44CE0084) and four previously unrecorded archaeological sites (44CE0573, 44CE0575, 44CE0576, and 44CE0577) were identified in the Survey Area.
