Using a metagenomics-based sequencing approach, the objective of this study was to determine the impacts of what is traditionally considered to be a high-input N and K fertility regime on the composition, diversity, and distribution of archaea, bacteria, and fungi in the rhizosphere of Poa annua (annual bluegrass) putting green turf. More specifically, we aim to examine whether different N and K fertility regimes reduce overall microbial diversity and species richness, thereby decreasing the productivity and ecological value of these highly-managed ecosystems.
