1.1 Background The Royal Commission manages the statutory List of Historic Place Names of Wales on behalf of the Welsh Ministers, under Part 6, Section 193 of the Historic Environment (Wales) Act 2023. The List is a national collection of the historic place names of Wales and it contains details of hundreds of thousands of place names from a variety of different sources. 1.2 Frequency of Update The List of Historic Place Names of Wales is an ever evolving resource which is being constantly updated by new submissions and research into sources recording historic names.
