BIG002 - Biga - Basic vocabulary (Speaker: Melianuis Samigita)

This dataset contains elicited basic vocabulary from Biga with Melianuis Samigita (born 1957), a native speaker of Biga. All words were recorded in isolation, utterance-final, and utterance-medial context; they cover the semantic domains of landscape, plants, animals, humans, verbs, numerals, qualities, and cultural items. The primary purpose of this recording was for use in systematic phonetic investigations on the realisation of the intrinsic fundamental frequency of vowels in Biga; a TextGrid (for use in Praat) is also provided. The session was recorded on 28 December 2019, in Biga village (Misool island, Raja Ampat regency, Southwest Papua province, Indonesia). As this recording was made just before the new year celebrations, the village was very busy, so there is a lot of disturbance from background noise in this recording. This dataset relates to the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship 'Synchronic and diachronic investigations in Raja Ampat-South Halmahera, a little-known subbranch of Austronesian' (PF19@004); additional fieldwork funds were provided by a Moray Endowment Fund from the University of Edinburgh.
