Esophageal microbiota in metaplasia. Profiling upper gastrointestinal microbiota in esophageal disease

Little is known of the relationship between the pediatric esophageal microbiota with metaplastic transformation. Bacterial and fungal components of oral, esophageal, and gastric fluid microbiotas from a prospective pediatric cohort were examined using 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing. 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing data from esophageal biopsies from a retrospective pediatric cohort were used to validate the findings.
