Deep sequencing of the entire mitochondrial genome in human preimplantation embryos. Homo sapiens

Mitochondria play an important role in the development of human preimplantation embryos and may represent an important biomarker of reproductive potential. Sequencing was performed with the Life Technologies Ion Torrent PGM with the 316 chip using the MitoSEQr system. Samples analyzed are human embryo trophectoderm biopsies of 5-6 total cells, taken from a series of paired euploid sibling embryos in which one of the two embryos implanted and delivered, thus providing an opportunity to evaluate whether heteroplasmy levels might be predictive of embryonic reproductive potential.
