Multibeam sonar data collected from the 2019 SY Vagabond Cruise

This dataset was collected aboard the SY Vagabond using a R2Sonic Sonic2026 multibeam echosounder in the eastern Canadian High Arctic during the summer of 2019. The University of Ottawa and University of Alberta chartered a private polar yacht for an oceanographic research cruise in the eastern Canadian Arctic Archipelago during August/September of 2019. The research cruise was conducted as part of the ArcticNet funded GO-ICE Project (Glacier-Ocean-Iceberg Dynamics in a Changing Canadian Arctic), investigating the role of the ocean in driving glacier retreat along the coasts of Ellesmere and Devon Islands. A key objective of the cruise was the acquisition of improved coastal bathymetric data to provide context for interpretation of oceanographic observations and to improve the accuracy of the bathymetric grid underlying the University of Albertas high-resolution ocean circulation model. The cruise allowed high-resolution mapping of the seafloor at glacier termini, in gaps in existing bathymetric coverage along the coast, and on approaches to the northern communities of Grise Fiord and Arctic Bay.
