A denitrification biofilter using polycaprolactone (PCL) as carbon source and biofilm carriers, developed for the nitrate-nitrogen in water from a recirculating aquaculture system in this study. Microbial community analysis showed that Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes were predominant in the inoculum with relative abundance of 63.9% and 27.4%. There were six genus, Acidovorax, Azospira and Comamonas, Diaphorobacter, Ignavibacterium, and Frateuria that are capable of both degrading PCL and denitrification nitrate-nitrogen.
