VPRS 18048 Records of Railway Plans and Sections Register

The Records of Railway Plans and Sections Register was used to record the number of copies being made of each of the Plan and Section drawings of Victorian railway lines.Multiple copies of each drawing were produced, and sometimes they were reproduced after amendments were made. The individual drawings were typically combined into books that covered a particular railway line. Multiple copies of the books referenced in the register were also produced, some of which are in VPRS 5751 Railway Lines, Plans and Sections.The register is arranged by the name of the railway lines, with an alphabetical index at the beginning of the register.Each page is divided into a number of columns:- Date;- [Page] Number;- Number of Copies;- Transfers; and- Lithograph Number. The lithograph number appears to be an annual single number.Some of the pages in this register also record which branch or department received sets of these drawings.The gaps in the lithograph numbers suggest that these drawings were part of a larger collection which included other types of records.The drawings usually have both the page number and the lithograph number printed on them.
