Dataset of 50 cross-section images and manual annual ring delineations of Salix glauca from Western Greenland

Here we present 50 annotated cross-section images of Salix glauca collected from Disko Island, Greenland, in 2019 and 2020. Thin sections (12-15 μm) were stained with 1 % safranin and 0.5 % astrablue, and permanently mounted in Eukitt (BiOptica, Milan). Images were acquired at 100× magnification with an Axio Scan Z1 microscope (Zeiss, Germany; 2.26 pixel/μm)). The images were manually annotated using the Labelme Annotation Tool (Wada, 2024), with polygons created for each annual ring, pith, and outer boundary. Each annual ring was labeled according to the corresponding year. The dataset includes: 1) 50 high-resolution cross-section images in .jpg format, and 2) 50 corresponding annotation files in .json format. These annotated images provide a resource for Arctic shrub dendroecology and machine learning applications.
