Artificial intelligence (AI) has been ubiquitous in our everyday lives for several years. It helps us shop online, listen to music or read online news. But what is "artificial intelligence" and why is it important for Germany as a manufacturing nation? How do we compare internationally with "AI Made in Germany", where is it already being used in industry today, what is still possible in the future - and would it be possible without it altogether? What ethical aspects do we need to consider and what does AI mean for jobs and prosperity? This HORIZONS issue aims at making the potential applications and significance of AI in industry transparent and thus stimulating a fact-based and solution-oriented discourse between all stakeholders in society.
