资源简介:
Samples from eight archaeological sites located along Santa Maria Creek in Oak Country
Estates, southern California, were examined for pollen and/or protein residue. Four stratigraphic
pollen columns were examined to provide evidence concerning vegetation from the time of
prehistoric occupation until present. In addition, several pieces of ground stone and flaked lithics
were examined for evidence of food processing or procurement. Radiocarbon ages, ranging from
1800 BP to 1000 BP and finally 500 BP, indicate that this area supported a large, Late Period
village inhabited prior to Spanish occupation. Recovery of worked porcelain flakes indicates that
the village continued to be occupied after contact with the Spanish.
