Environmental database of SCCAL

With limited resources and efforts, assessing species' vulnerabilities across various geographic regions before our conservation practice is important. One pressing challenge has been establishing natural temperature-manipulated research systems across latitudes. To address this challenge, we developed an innovative infrastructure named the Semi-Natural Climate Chambers Across Latitudes (SCCAL), at three latitudes, spanning 27° and 3393 km from tropical to temperate regions. Each latitude features eight medium-sized patches for temperature manipulation, organisms rearing, and ecological experiments. After the SCCAL construction, we conducted some environmental factors determinations. We collected Te in natural microhabitats and present-climate patches to validate the temperatures in present climate patches were the same to those in nature. Also we collected the illuminance, soil moisture and air humidity, air temperatures, and Te from present-climate and warming-climate patches to validate the setup of SCCAL could simulate the scenarios under climate change. Currently, we set the temperatures in warming patches according to the scenario SSP1-2.6 (1.3-2.4℃) at all three latitudes, and ensure the differences between present-climate and warming-climate patches increased towards high latitudes. Here this dataset is a collection of environmental factors.
