Research Background
This research is situated in contemporary jewellery and enamelling. This research was the first project where a jeweller explored and interpreted a personal experience of Antarctica to produce jewellery objects that used vitreous enamel to depict the landscape. These objects reveal new interpretations of Antarctica and explore the use of reflector beads and vitreous enamel.
Research Significance
This research was presented in Heat Exchange II. Curated by Beate Gegenwart and Elizabeth Turrell for Craft in the Bay, Cardiff. A touring exhibition travelling from Craft in the Bay, Cardiff to St. Andrews Museum, St. Andrews, the Kulturhof Kroenbacken, Galerie Waidspeicher, Erfurt, Germany and the Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein (BKV) (Gallery for Applied Arts), Munich. Each of these venues exhibits craft and publishes on jewellery. The exhibition was supported by the Arts Council of Wales. This temporary exhibition has created dialogue internationally around enamelling in craft practices.
Research Contribution
The work was selected and is situated in the development of innovative dialogues around vitreous enamel in craft practice internationally. The work responds to challenges in the field and explores new approaches through materiality and original concepts in enamelling.
