The objective of this investigation was to study the effect of pre-shear on the transient evolution of the microstructure and viscoelastic tensile stresses for monodisperse dilute polymer solutions. The SHERE flight experiment aimed to investigate and quantify, for the first time, the transient extensional stress growth characteristics of a dilute polymer solution after a defined pre-shear history.
Following the initial SHERE campaign a re-flight of the investigation was carried out as SHERE-R with additional experimental runs.
