Global patterns of cercozoan diversity in drylands

In a global context of increasing aridity in drylands, our study focus on major but overlooked player in the soil biota, the protistan phylum Cercozoa. We show that aridity is the main factor shaping the cercozoan communities, represented by ca. 3,000 operational taxonomical units in 80 drylands sites from all continents except Antarctica.
