Ḳiṣṣa-i-Gul u Ṣanaubar ( قصّۀ گل و صنوبر).
The story of Gul and Ṣanaubar (rose and pine tree) in Persian prose, beginning: راويان اخبار و ناقلان آثار چنين روايت كنند كه در خاور زمين پادشاهى بود كه آنرا سمن شاه نعلپوش مگويند الخ.
See the same story, but in an apparently shorter version and with different beginning, noticed in Rieu ii. p. 764b, found in a MS. written in the seventeenth century.
A Hindûstânî adaptation of the same was published by Hidâyat ‘Alî of Islâmâbâd, 1847, at Calcutta, and translated into French by Garcin de Tassy, in ׳Revue orientale et americaine,׳ tom. vii, 1862, pp. 69-130; another Hindûstânî translation in verse was made by Aḥmad ‘Alî of Sarâwah, comp. Garcin de Tassy, Histoire de la littér. Hindouie etc., 2nd ed., i. 157, and ibidem about the Dakhnî and Urdû-Bangâlî translations of the same story; a third poetical translation into Hindûstânî by Nem Ćand was published at Calcutta, 1827, and at Lucknow, 1845.
