资源简介:
The dataset is linked to this scientific paper: Mesbahi et al., 2026. The methanogenic potential of grass-fed dairy calves is mostly impacted by the feeding system, not the genotype. Livestock Science. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.livsci.2026.105968

This study is part of the Horizon 2020 Re-Livestock. We studied 72 male calves from 3 to 6 months of age, distributed among 3 genotypes and 4 grass-based systems. The systems encompass one indoor hay-based system and three pasture-based systems located in the lowland, mid-elevation and alpine areas. This dataset focuses on the in vitro methane production of these calves, and the script for statistical analysis compares the production from both the genotypes and the system. The in vitro methane production has been assessed using the Hohenheim Gas Test (HGT) protocol, adapted to assess the emissions at the calf level but not at the feed level. The dataset includes:
- the gas production from the rumen fluid alone (HGT_Blank.csv),
- the gas production from the rumen fluid and the feed (HGT_full.csv),
- the ammonia production from the rumen fluid and the feed, and the pH of the rumen fluid (HGT_Ammonia+pH.csv),
- the description of the studied calf and sampling procedure, including the genotypes, farms, weights, birthdates, sampling dates, sampling hour, and time for the beginning of the in vitro fermentation (HGT_descriptif.csv).
