The present study aims to evaluate the potential of a novel marker system (Enoki et al.2012) as a rapid and high-throughput genotyping technology for genomics-assisted breeding. We used common buckwheat as a test case for the application of the marker system, and conducted linkage mapping and QTL mapping without any prior genomic information (e.g., DNA sequences of common buckwheat) and any existing genomic tools (e.g., DNA markers developed for common buckwheat). We selected two plants from a breeding population and crossed them to generate a segregating population.
