This program collects diverse types of data nationwide to help understand the country's geological characteristics, identify new critical minerals and other mineral resources, and provide decision-making support to meet the nation's evolving needs. As a component of the USGS Mineral Resources Program, Earth MRI prioritizes prospective areas for critical metal resource exploration, with the aim of reducing the United States' dependence on mineral imports.
