Supporting healthcare conversations for people with communication difficulties

Third year medical students were given teaching on ways to support patients with communication difficulties (PwCD). Study participants had a conversation with a PwCD at baseline and at outcome, or observed a Speech & Language Therapy session.
Student participants provided baseline and outcome self-ratings of their knowledge and confidence. PwCD, and Expert Assessors, also provided feedback on the students' skills in conversation. Quantitative data is provided for each group.
PwCD also had conversations with the researcher about their experiences of, and priorities for, healthcare interactions. Transcripts from these are provided, edited into Units of Meaning for a Content Analysis approach.
