Toss GERALT into chloroplast to make it green: an age-dependent regulator of chloroplast biogenesis and chlorophyll biosynthesis.

The studies were performed using Arabidopsis thaliana: wt Col (N6000) and SALK_116579 (geralt, GERMINATION ALBINO TRANSIENT) mutant. At2g47590 gene encodes GERALT protein. This protein was not characterized so far. It is localized in chloroplasts, influences chloroplast biogenesis and chlorophyll biosynthesis and its role decreases with the plant age. RNA was isolated from 100 mg of plant tissues derived from whole seedlings: wt and geralt mutant collected at two time-points: 5 day-old or 12 day-old. Plants were grown in in vitro culture in the culture chamber and were harvested approximately 4h after turn on the light. RNA-Seq was performed for 12 libraries (three biological replications for two time-points, wt and mutant plants).
