Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora Transcriptome or Gene expression

Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora has been found to contain the special metabolite of interest, montbretin A (MbA). In exploring MbA's capability as A type 2 diabetes therapeutic, a sustainable production system for MbA is needed. A solution to this production problem is to harness the biosynthetic genes employed by C. x crocosmiiflora in the biosynthesis of MbA to either produce a C. x crocosmiiflora system with heightened levels of MbA or an engineered microorganism capable of producing MbA. To this end, this project established the first transcriptomic resource for C. x crocosmiiflora and helped in the identification and characterization of MbA biosynthetic genes.
