INTRASPECIFIC TRAIT VARIATION IN TREE SPECIES RESPONDS TO ENVIRONMENTAL HETEROGENEITY AT RANGE-WIDE BUT NOT LOCAL SCALES

Data files Statistical_Analyses_And_Figures: Runs the pre-dating cleaning script and produces the figures and tables in the main text. RAW DATA: All raw data files used · “Combined_BasalArea_StemCounts_RareSppLump_22Mar2015.Rdata” : a .Rdata file containing the basal areas, environmental data, and occurrence records from 2015 for species across Puerto Rico, compiled by Maria Uriarte and Robert Muscarella. · “PR_soft_traits_2019-10-03_RM.csv”: Wood density and specific leaf area data collected across plots in Puerto Rico in 2019 by Robert Muscarella. · “chelsa_data_6”: Environmental variables downloaded from the CHELSA database and compiled into a csv by Eva Arroyo in 2023 using GPS coordinates for each site. · “ClimateGradient_Roughness.csv”: · “pr_5mdem_wgs.tif”: 5-meter resolution DEM of Puerto Rico in WGS84 latitude-longitude format from USGS Earth Explorer, downloaded in 2022. · “Spatial”: shape files for the plot boundaries in Puerto Rico, compiled by Jazlyn Hall in 2018. Data cleaning: Script that runs at the beginning of Statistical_Analyses_And_Figures that takes the raw, pre-data-cleaning files and generates summary tables of 1) the environmental data at each site (summary_sites_2) 2) the across-site variation paired with environmental range (samplevar_spslve_3) and 3) the within-site variation paired with the environment at that site (samplevar_4) Roughness_PR_5mDEM_new.R: Script that runs inside of Data cleaning script to calculate terrain roughness at the 5 meter scale. For all scripts be sure to set the location to the local working directory, and if errors occur use the packages archived in the renv.lock file.
