Drinking water samples were collected from fixtures (sinks, showers, drinking fountains) in three campus buildings experiencing extended occupancy reductions during the COVID-19 pandemic. In one building, fixtures were flushed weekly, and samples were collected immediately before, immediately after, and one day after flushing. Using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, bacterial communities were compared to explore the impacts of stagnation and flushing. Sequencing results were compared to general microbial and chemical water quality data.
