The present invention relates to a carrier material for producing decorative wall or floor panels, as well as to a wall or floor panel comprising such a carrier material. The carrier material may comprise a matrix material and a solid material, the matrix material being present in an amount of 25 wt.-% to 55 wt.-%, based on the carrier material, wherein the solid material is a carrier material. Based on the material, it is present in an amount of 45 wt.-% to 75 wt.-%. The matrix material and the solid material may be present together in an amount of 95 wt.-%, based on the carrier material. The carrier material is formed of a solid composition in which the solid material consists of at least 50 wt.-% of at least a first layered silicate powder and a second layered silicate powder, based on the solid material, and the matrix material is based on the matrix material. As such, it is characterized in that it is formed from a plastic composition consisting of at least 50 wt.-% of a homopolymer and at least a first copolymer and a second copolymer.
