Investigations of the glacial and periglacial geology of the Miers and Taylor Valley

The glacial and periglacial geology of the Miers and Taylor Valley was investigated. Special interests of the Miers and Taylor Valleys lie in their ice covered lakes and in the prolematic benches which run around the valleys - often called ice cored moraines. Cores were drilled in the ridges of rock detritus which lie on the ice and run inside the margin of Lake Miers to determine how the benches are formed. Sediments were examined and found they are not the normal deposits of valley glaciers but include fine sediment and salt deposits probably laid down under a floating ice shelf like the present Ross barrier.
