Both trehalase activity and the methylamine uptake rate are expressed as percentage compared to that in the wild type strain. For transport, the average of three independent experiments was taken and standard deviation is shown. For trehalase, the maximal activity (with subtraction of the mean of the blank values) measured 10 min after addition of 10 mM NH4+, was compared between the deletion strain and the wild type.
