Serrulatane diterpenoids are found in a subset of genera within the Scrophulariaceae family of plants and are known for their antimicrobial properties. Leubethanol from Leucophyllum frutescens is one such antimicrobial compound which shares a common core structure with nearly all serrulatane diterpenoids. We sequenced RNA isolated from L. frutescens root and flower tissue to elucidate three steps involved in the biosynthesis of leubethanol.
