We experimentally removed a Y chromosome that carries the male-determining DMY gene from a medaka fish (Oryzias sakaizumii). Two Y-eliminated lines were established and maintained in a laboratory for four generations using high temperature-induced sex-reversed males with XX genotypes. In one of the two strains, the signatures of a neo-sex chromosome appeared on one chromosome, which was an autosome in the original population.
