Derivation_of_porcine_embryonic_stem_cell_using_defined_condition

We have establisehed cultures of totipotent stem cells of mouse and human. These cells can differentiate to cell types that standard stem cells have failed to differentiate to. The concpet of totipotent stem cells now enables us to establish totipotent stem cells of pig. Scientists in the pig genetics and stem cell field have been working to establsih bona fide pig embryonic stem cells in vitro for many years but so far all failed. In a collaboration with professor Heiner Newmann in Germany, we have now established pig iPSC cultures from fibroblasts. The new pig iPSCs can efficiently contribute to different cell types in pig host embryos. We apply for approval to perform RNA-seq for analysing the transcriptome of the pig iPSCs and other cell types.
