Southern Giant Petrel Macronectes giganteus GPS tracking and bill length

This dataset contains two files: one with GPS tracking data from Southern Giant Petrels (Macronectes giganteus) breeding in Harmony Point (Nelson Island, 59.19ºW 62.30ºS), and one with their bill length. A figure showing how the bill length was measured is also available. The tracking consists of a csv file with unique individual bird id (BirdId = ring number), timestamp (YYYY-mm-dd, GMT ) Longitude Latitude (EPSG 4326), and season (breeding seasons 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2024/25,mostly December and early January). These are raw data with 5-min interval geographical fixes (however a few individuals had 10-min interval, easily identified in the dataset), collected using CaLog-P Gen 2 epoxy cased GPS loggers (Perthold Technology, 50g) and Sputnik XAIS GPSs (Sextant Technology, 70g). Bill length (as exemplified in the figure) measured in mm, also with the unique individual bird id (ring number) and sex, assumed as the smaller individual of the breeding pair being a female, and the larger a male. Data collection was funded by Instituto Antártico Chileno Programa Áreas Marinas Protegidas (AMP 24 09 052) and ANID, through Instituto Milénio de Biodiversidad de Ecosistemas Antárticos y Subantarticos (Programa Iniciativa Milénio ICN2021_002).
