Data Sources, Provenance, Processing, Licensing and Conditions of Reuse 1. General description This repository contains spatial datasets prepared for the Los Arenales study area in the framework of the WaterTHeftproject, grant agreement No. 101124884. The deposited products comprise spatial modelling inputs derived from third-party geographic datasets and from original processing undertaken by the dataset creators. Depending on the file, the processing included mosaicking, clipping, reprojection, spatial aggregation, grid alignment, thematic reclassification, constrained spatial allocation, patch regularisation and preparation for hydrological and hydro-economic modelling. The files deposited in this repository are research products derived from the sources identified below. They are not official products of the original data providers and must not be represented as such. Copyright, database rights and any other rights in the source datasets remain with their respective data providers. The repository creators claim authorship only over their original processing, selection, harmonisation, spatial allocation, organisation, documentation and other original contributions. No licence granted through this repository extends or replaces the rights and conditions attached to the underlying source datasets. Where the terms governing a source dataset are more restrictive than the licence applied to an original contribution by the repository creators, the source-data terms prevail. 2. Digital Elevation Model 2.1 Source product The Digital Elevation Model was derived from the Spanish MDT25 first-coverage product: MDT25-cob1, 2008–2015 The source product was produced within the Spanish National Cartographic System by the Instituto Geográfico Nacional — IGN, the Fondo Español de Garantía Agraria — FEGA, and the relevant Autonomous Communities, and is distributed through the Centro Nacional de Información Geográfica — CNIG. The MDT25 source product has a nominal grid spacing of 25 metres and was generated primarily from ground-classified LiDAR data acquired during the first coverage of the Spanish National Aerial Orthophotography Programme. 2.2 Processing applied The original MDT25 tiles were processed to obtain a Digital Elevation Model covering the study area. The processing included, as applicable: mosaicking of the original MDT25 tiles; clipping to the boundaries of the study area; reprojection to ETRS89 UTM30N; alignment with the project modelling grid; resampling using nearest neighbour; modification of NoData values; hydrological conditioning, including sink filling; derivation of additional terrain variables, where applicable. The final spatial resolution is 25m. Only the processing operations actually applied to the deposited files should be considered part of this description. 2.3 Mandatory attribution The following official attribution applies to the derived Digital Elevation Model: Obra derivada de MDT25-cob1 2008–2015 CC-BY 4.0 scne.es. English explanatory translation: Derived work based on MDT25-cob1 2008–2015, CC BY 4.0, scne.es. Original data producers: Instituto Geográfico Nacional, Fondo Español de Garantía Agraria and the Autonomous Communities of Spain. The Spanish wording above is retained because it is the attribution formula specified by the original data provider. 2.4 Licence The MDT25 source data are made available under the conditions established by Order FOM/2807/2015 and the corresponding IGN/CNIG licence, which is compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. The derived Digital Elevation Model files identified in the file-level licence inventory are distributed under: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International — CC BY 4.0. Users must retain the original MDT25 attribution, acknowledge the creators of this derived dataset and indicate any further modifications. Neither the IGN, the CNIG, the FEGA nor the Autonomous Communities have reviewed, validated or endorsed the derived files deposited in this repository. 3. Soil dataset 3.1 Scientific origin The soil dataset deposited or documented in this repository was adapted from the soil-property mapping work described in: Rivas-Tabares, D., de Miguel, Á., Willaarts, B. and Tarquis, A. M. (2020). Self-organizing map of soil properties in the context of hydrological modeling. Applied Mathematical Modelling, 88, 175–189. DOI: 10.1016/j.apm.2020.06.044. The scientific publication evaluated soil-property maps created from soil observations and geostatistical interpolation at a spatial resolution of 100 m. Soil-property mapping and soil-unit definition were undertaken using the procedures described in the cited publication, including geostatistical interpolation and self-organising map analysis. The deposited dataset is not a reproduction of the publisher-formatted article, its PDF, figures or graphical composition. It is a separately prepared research-data product derived from the underlying scientific work. 3.2 Underlying soil-information sources The original work incorporated soil information obtained through the soil-information resources of the Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León — ITACyL and the Junta de Castilla y León. The official Edafología dataset catalogue indicates that the available soil information comprises cartographic soil information and soil observations compiled from work undertaken by several institutions. Rights in those underlying observations, maps and source materials remain with their respective producers and data providers. Required attribution: © Junta de Castilla y León. 3.3 Adaptation to the 250 m modelling grid For the present repository, the previously generated soil map was adapted to a regular grid with cells measuring 250 m × 250 m. The processing included: alignment with the common HILAM modelling grid; conversion or aggregation from the original spatial representation to 250 m cells; assignment of soil units or soil-property values using nearest neighbour; reprojection to ETRS89 UTM30N; clipping to the study-area boundary; assignment of unique soil and spatial identifiers; preparation of soil attributes for use in SWAT. For categorical soil units, the representative class assigned to each 250 m cell was determined using ceentroid weighted average. For continuous soil properties, values were calculated using voronoi weighted average to grid. No new field observations were collected as part of this 250 m grid conversion. The conversion changes the spatial representation and must not be interpreted as an improvement in the observational accuracy of the original soil information. 3.4 Licence and access conditions The underlying ITACyL/Junta de Castilla y León soil information is subject to the following specific licence: IGCYL-NC — Cartography and Geographic Information produced by the Administration of the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León. The applicable conditions include: use must be non-commercial; transformation is permitted provided that it does not distort or misrepresent the meaning of the geographic information; the attribution “© Junta de Castilla y León” must remain visible; redistribution of the information or of a product incorporating it is permitted for non-commercial use; recipients must be informed of and explicitly accept the applicable IGCYL-NC conditions. Accordingly, the soil files are not offered under CC BY 4.0. Unless separate written authorisation has been obtained from the relevant rights holder, the soil files should be distributed with restricted access. Access may be granted exclusively for non-commercial scientific, educational or public-interest use after the requester has explicitly accepted the IGCYL-NC conditions. The repository creators do not authorise commercial use of the underlying soil information and cannot grant rights beyond those held by them. 4. Land-use and crop-allocation dataset 4.1 Original data source The land-use products were generated using the: Mapa de Cultivos y Superficies Naturales de Castilla y León — MCSNCyL produced and published by the: Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León — ITACyL, Junta de Castilla y León. The MCSNCyL is an annually updated land-cover and crop map generated using satellite imagery. The source products used in this work correspond to the years [LIST YEARS]. The source files were obtained from the official ITACyL MCSNCyL download service and, for some years, from the corresponding section of the ITACyL Agroclimatic Atlas file repository. Original source attribution: Data source: Junta de Castilla y León. More specific acknowledgement: Mapa de Cultivos y Superficies Naturales de Castilla y León — MCSNCyL, Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León — ITACyL, Junta de Castilla y León. 4.2 HILAM transformation The deposited land-use grids were created using the Hydro-economic Interoperable Land-use Allocation Method — HILAM. HILAM converts the source land-use information into a regular 250 m × 250 m spatial template designed to support interoperability between hydrological and hydro-economic models. The procedure is not a conventional raster resampling operation. It applies a constrained spatial-allocation approach that seeks to preserve the relevant land-use composition of the source data while producing spatially coherent modelling units. The processing comprised the following principal operations: The original MCSNCyL classes were harmonised and reclassified into the land-use and crop categories required by the modelling framework. A regular grid with cells measuring 250 m × 250 m was established as the common spatial template. Land uses regarded as spatially static or structurally persistent were assigned before the allocation of agricultural uses. These included, as applicable: principal roads and transport infrastructure; water bodies; urban and built-up areas; forests and woodland; natural or semi-natural grasslands; other permanent natural vegetation. The areas and proportions of the agricultural land-use categories in the source data were calculated within 1 km2. Agricultural categories were allocated to eligible grid cells so that the original land-use proportions were reproduced as closely as possible within a predefined numerical tolerance of 564,19 m at level 1 and < 5km at level 2.Level 1: munipalities, Level 2: provincial. Agricultural cells were spatially arranged to favour compact and coherent patches rather than isolated cells. The patch-allocation procedure was designed to reduce salt-and-pepper spatial patterns and limit the unnecessary proliferation of Hydrological Response Units in SWAT. The final land-use layer was aligned with the soil, elevation, climatic and other spatial inputs used by the hydrological and hydro-economic modelling framework. Unique grid-cell, land-use and modelling identifiers were assigned to support data exchange between SWAT and the associated economic model. 4.3 Interpretation of the HILAM product The resulting dataset is a model-oriented, spatially regularised representation of the source land-use composition. The spatial positions of preserved static classes are based on the source land-use information. However, the location of individual agricultural cells may have been generated or modified by the HILAM allocation procedure. Consequently: the HILAM dataset must not be interpreted as an observed parcel-level crop map; an individual 250 m agricultural cell must not be interpreted as confirmation that the represented crop was observed at that exact location; the dataset is not suitable for cadastral applications, agricultural-subsidy verification, legal boundary determination or field-level crop monitoring; comparisons with the original MCSNCyL product must take account of the spatial allocation and regularisation applied; the dataset is intended primarily for hydrological, hydro-economic and scenario-modelling applications. 4.4 Changes made to the MCSNCyL source material The following changes were made, as applicable: extraction of the study area; clipping; reprojection; class harmonisation; thematic reclassification; conversion to a 250 m regular grid; preservation of selected static land-use classes; calculation of source land-use proportions; constrained allocation of agricultural categories; spatial patch regularisation; reduction of isolated cells; coding and alignment for SWAT and hydro-economic modelling; preparation of annual or scenario-specific land-use layers. The derived files should not be attributed to ITACyL as if they were official ITACyL products. 4.5 Licence The official MCSNCyL dataset catalogue identifies the source data as being available under: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International — CC BY 4.0. The HILAM-derived land-use files identified in the file-level licence inventory are also released under: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International — CC BY 4.0. Users must: acknowledge the Junta de Castilla y León and ITACyL as the providers of the original MCSNCyL information; cite this repository and its creators as the source of the HILAM-derived product; retain an indication that the source data were modified; identify any additional changes made by the user; avoid suggesting that ITACyL or the Junta de Castilla y León endorses the HILAM methodology, the deposited product or any subsequent use; avoid presenting the derived spatial allocation as the official or observed MCSNCyL distribution. Neither ITACyL nor the Junta de Castilla y León has evaluated, certified or endorsed the HILAM-derived files unless an explicit written statement indicates otherwise. 5. File-level rights statement Different files in this repository may be governed by different licences. No single licence should be assumed to apply to every deposited file. No endorsement Reference to the IGN, CNIG, FEGA, ITACyL, Junta de Castilla y León, the Autonomous Communities, the European Union or the European Research Council is made solely to identify source data, funding and provenance. Such reference does not imply that any of these organisations: participated in the HILAM processing; approved the processing methodology; verified the deposited files; certifies their accuracy; endorses the interpretations made by the repository creators; endorses any subsequent product or decision based on the files. 7. Accuracy, fitness for purpose and limitation of liability The datasets are provided for scientific and research purposes on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Although reasonable care was taken in their preparation, the repository creators do not warrant that the files are complete, error-free, continuously available or suitable for any particular purpose. Spatial aggregation, resampling, thematic reclassification and model-oriented allocation necessarily introduce uncertainty and may produce differences from the original source products. Users are solely responsible for: assessing whether the datasets are suitable for their intended purpose; examining the original source documentation; complying with all applicable source-data licences; retaining required attributions; identifying any additional modifications; conducting independent validation where decisions may have legal, financial, environmental, engineering or operational consequences. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the repository creators accept no responsibility for direct or indirect loss, damage, cost or adverse consequence arising from the use, inability to use, interpretation or redistribution of the deposited files. This statement does not exclude or limit any responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable law. 8. Rights-holder notification and correction procedure The repository creators have made a good-faith effort to identify the applicable data providers, licences, attribution requirements and redistribution conditions in force at the time of deposit. Consultation date The official source metadata and the applicable licence information were consulted on 17 July 2026. Users should verify whether the source providers have subsequently updated their datasets or terms. 10. Citation requirements Users of the derived Digital Elevation Model should cite: this repository; the MDT25 source product; the mandatory official MDT25 attribution. Users of the soil dataset should cite: this repository; Rivas-Tabares et al. (2020); the underlying ITACyL/Junta de Castilla y León soil-information source; “© Junta de Castilla y León”; the applicable IGCYL-NC conditions. Users of the HILAM land-use dataset should cite: this repository; the original MCSNCyL dataset; ITACyL and the Junta de Castilla y León; the future HILAM methodological publication, once available. Until the HILAM methodological article is published, users should cite the Zenodo record as the primary description of the processing method. 11.
