16S sequencing of captive elk experimentally infected with treponeme-associated hoof disease

The goal of this project is to develop a model for rapidly and reliably reproducing treponeme-associated hoof disease (TAHD) in captive elk. V3-V4 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing was performed on biopsies and scrapings of interdigital skin collected before and after inoculation. Subsamples of macerated tissue and anaerobic enrichment cultures used as inoculum were also sequenced to determine their bacterial composition.
