Genomic sequence of the threespine stickleback iridovirus (TSIV) from wild Gasterosteus in Stormy Lake, Alaska

We sequenced a threespine stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus) from Stormy Lake, Alaska infected with the threespine stickleback iridovirus (TSIV) to assemble a complete TSIV genome. TSIV is a divergent taxon of the Megalocytivirus genus, which includes viruses that have caused high levels of mortality in food aquaculture and the ornamental fish trade. Assembly of the genome will be a valuable tool to evaluate species demarcation criteria for TSIV, study Megalocytivirus evolution, and study host-pathogen coevolution in sticklebacks.
