Bacteria associated with Opuntia ficus-indica cladodes exhibiting soft rot-like symptoms in Puebla, Mexico.

Following reports from local farmers in Atlixco, Puebla, regarding soft rot-like symptoms affecting Opuntia ficus-indica cladodes, Bacillus wiedmannii and Enterobacter mori were recovered from the diseased tissue. To date, neither isolate has been definitively confirmed as the primary etiological agent. This study aims to elucidate the role of these isolates in the observed symptoms and their relationship to the phytopathogenic process.
