Genetic structure of an endangered agamid lizard (Ceratophora aspera) and implications for the conservation of endemic fauna in Sri Lanka

Ceratophora aspera is an endangered lizard restricted to the Southwestern rainforests of Sri Lanka. Much of these historically vast forests are not fragmented and degraded, threatening the survival of C. aspera and other forest dwelling ectotherms. This study is designed to assess the genetic structure of the remaining Ceratophora aspera populations across three key forest regions in Sri Lanka. We will be able to understand the relationships between populations and ultimately can help inform forest restoration and re-connectivity efforts.
