The situation in life of foreign young people in the district of
Offenbach.

Topics: knowledge of personal national language as well as the German
language; length of stay of respondent, parents as well as siblings in
Germany; attitude to remaining in the Federal Republic; description of
residence situation; residential occupancy and one´s own room;
proportion of foreigners in residential area; type and number of club
memberships; membership structure and club founders; preferred
membership structure; preferred leisure contacts and desire for German
or foreign young people as leisure partners; place for leisure
activities; knowledge of parents about place, type and partners in
leisure activities; interest of parents in leisure activities and
leisure contacts; consent of parents with activities of respondent;
detailed recording of frequency and popularity of selected leisure
activities; interest in extension of various leisure activities;
attitude to extension of leisure activities with parents; boredom;
motives for inter-generation conflicts; assumed attitude of German
young people regarding foreign young people as well as of the foreign
young people regarding German young people and of one´s own countrymen
regarding other foreigners in the Federal Republic; feeling of
acceptance by German young people; school attendance in country of
origin and in Germany; interest in school; relationship with teachers
and classmates; attitude to homework coaching; ideas about an
occupation after completion of school; assumed expectations of parents
for this time; prospects for a training vacancy; judgement on the
German school education in comparison to that in the native country.

The following additional questions were also posed with young people
who had already completed school: actual and desired occupation after
school attendance; reasons for the occupation decision; sources of
information used and manner of search for work or training vacancy;
general judgement on the occupation prospects of foreign young people;
occupation prospects of foreign young people in comparison to Germans.

Demography: age; sex; age and number of siblings; social origins;
nationality.

Interviewer rating: presence of others, in particular of parents,
during the interview; number of apartments in the building; residential
area.

Also encoded were: identification of interviewer; age of interviewer;
sex of interviewer; ZIP (postal) code.
