PhERF1 is a AP2/ERF family transcription factor, which is structurally related to tomato JRE4 and tabacco ERF189. JRE4 and ERF189 regulate steroidal glycoalkaloid and nicotine biosynthesis pathways, respectively. To reveal the molecular function, PhERF1 was transiently overexpressed in petunia leaves and RNA-Seq analysis was perform to screen the genes up-regulated by the transcriptional regulator.
