Wildfire in Greece (2025-06-26)

On the 26 June 2025 at 09:35, a wildfire started very close to the urban area of Thymari town, 35 km south-southeast from Athens, Greece. The fire expanded rapidly due to the strong winds and threatened the settlements of Thymari and Triandafilia. Residents of these settlements had to be evacuated and a 112 cell-broadcasting message was sent for this purpose. 130 firefighters with 41 vehicles and 5 ground forces groups, along with 12 airplanes and 12 helicopters were used for fire suppression. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping was requested to provide initial rough estimation, fire extent monitoring and damage assessment emergency mapping.
