Geraniol, a potential alternative to antibiotics for treating clinical mastitis in dairy cows without disturbing the host microbial community, no residue and not easily produces bacteria drug

Both antibiotics and geraniol can significantly reduce the relative abundance of pathogenic bacteria in milk and improve the diversity of milk bacteria. In addition, geraniol can also increase the relative abundance of probiotics in milk. It was interesting to find that intramuscular injection of geraniol did not destroy the structure of gut microbiome of mice and cows, whereas antibiotics significantly reduced the diversity and destroyed the community structure of gut microbiome in mice and cows, and injection of geraniol even increased the diversity of gut microbiome.
